Recapcast

Privacy policy

Effective 11 October 2026. Recapcast is operated by AIMASTERZ LLC. Contact: admin@aimasterz.com.

Recapcast is a Chrome extension that turns a long discussion thread or article into a short spoken briefing. This policy explains what data it handles, where it goes, and what we keep.

What happens on your device only

When you choose an AI briefing

With Recapcast's free AI recaps. The first time, the panel asks before anything is sent. If you agree, the text of the thread you asked about is sent to our server and then to Google's Gemini API, which writes the briefing. This means the title, post, comments (with usernames and scores) or the article text. On Reddit this may include posts from communities you can see that are not public. We cut the text to what the briefing needs and never send the page address.

With your own Gemini key. You enter your key on the extension's own settings page, which websites cannot read. It is stored only in your browser. Threads go straight from your browser to Google under your agreement with Google, and never pass through our server.

Asking the thread a question

When you ask a question, the question and the thread's text go to Google's Gemini API to find the answer: through our server (after you agree, as for AI recaps) or straight from your browser if you use your own key. A question counts as one AI recap. We keep neither the question nor the answer.

Your library

Saved moments, the list of briefings you heard and the Up next queue are stored only in your browser. The queue is cleared when the browser closes. Nothing in your library is sent to us.

Studio voices

Studio voices are made by Google's Gemini speech models. When you use one, each sentence of your briefing is sent to Google to be spoken: through our server if you are a Plus member, or straight from your browser to Google if you use your own Gemini key. We count the seconds of speech per install for the monthly allowance and keep neither the text nor the audio.

If you buy Recapcast Plus

Payments are handled by Stripe. Stripe collects your email address and card details under its own privacy policy, and we never see your card number. We keep the Stripe customer and subscription IDs linked to the random install ID, together with the subscription's status, so the extension knows you are a member. We keep these for as long as you are subscribed and as long as tax and accounting law requires afterwards.

What we never do

We do not sell or share your data. We do not use it for advertising or for any purpose other than writing the briefing you asked for. We do not use it to decide creditworthiness or for lending. We do not collect your browsing history: the extension reads a page only when you press its button or shortcut.

Our use of information received from Chrome extension APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your choices

Children

The extension is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above. Any material change will be shown in the extension before it applies.
